A good movie is like...

all of those mostly cheesy flicks we enjoyed in the 1980s.

Today I found myself thinking about how I use to be a movie junkie and could sit and watch the same movies repeatedly each day. Though I don't have the kind time or freedom to lounge around as I once did, I certainly haven't forgotten what movies use to help me pass the time with great ease.

As kid, you could stick me in front of the television and vcr with a stack of movies and I was one happy camper. In these now adult years, I find that on the rare occasions when I have lounge time, there aren't many post 1980s movies that I crave. I usually end up digging in my collections of overwhelming 1980s movies to appease that nostalgic spirit in me. Now don't get me wrong, there are certainly a few contemporary movies that I watch regularly such as Someone Like You, Bridgette Jones' Diary, Brown Sugar, Love Jones and Two Can Play That Game. Though I find them enjoyable, they just don't do it for me the way my favorites below I always did and still can for the most part.

Take a short journey back in time with me...

1980: Of all of the movies on this list, Fame is my absolute favorite!

1983: Trading Places is one Eddie Murphy's top three movies. It's hilarious!

1983: Terms of Endearment is the classic story of loving dysfunctional relationships. It still makes me cry every time!

1984: I swear the Police Academy movies are some of the funniest movies ever!

1984: Unbeknownst to me at the time, Breakin' was one of my earliest introductions to hip hop culture.

1984: Beverly Hills Cop is the second of Eddie Murphy's top 3 movies. Its back when I found movies entertaining and him to be a good actor!

1984: I don't know what it was about Revenge of the Nerds that I enjoyed, but I've seem them all like 10 times!

1984: Beat Street is a hip hop classic! I still watch it when I get the urge!

1985: I don't think there's much I need to say about the Color Purple!

1985: Its not that I ever thought Desperately Seeking Susan was a good movie, but once upon a time I loved Madonna. In later years, that bitch called black men primitive in either Vogue, Elle or Cosmo...which ever. That was the end of it for me, but the movie did feature what was once my favorite song, Get Into the Groove.

1986: This is another favorite movie, second to Fame. Molly Ringwold held it down in Pretty in Pink for every poor and awkward girl who just wanted to be liked and fit in. Molly was my hero, not to mention the 1980's teen "it" girl!

1987: The Untouchables will always be a special movie for me, because it was the first movie that my mom took me to see in the theater that I actually remember!

1987: Only two words I can say about Mannequin , ANDREW MCCARTHY!

1987: Fatal Attraction was one of the first riske movies I ever saw. I think I was traumatized by the content for a couple of weeks!

1987: Disorderlies was sheer tom-foolery, but I used to love me some Fat Boys, all three of their big asses!

1987: Dirty Dancingis another favorite right up there with Fame and Pretty in Pink. Of all of the movies on this list, I've likely seen it more times than any other movie!

1988: Coming to America is the third of Eddie Murphy's 3 best movies. It's a classic as I'm sure yall already know and agree!

1988: Mystic Pizza is definitely one of my favorite Julia Roberts movies. I can't really explain it, but I've always enjoyed it.

1988: Glory was one of the first historical movies that I watched and payed close attention to!

1989: I usually like to say that Spike did the right thing when he made Do the Right Thing! It's one of his best!

Ummm... "Pretty in Pink" remains one of my all-time favorite movies. I was also on "Breakfast Club" and "Sixteen Candles," both of which were also directed by John Hughes and starred Molly Ringwald. One of the biggest disappointments of my life was having to face that fact that I would not grow up to be a red-headed white girl in thrift store clothes that got to kiss Judd Nelson in the high school janitor's closet. *Sigh* I wonder where Molly is now?
