Ain't no time, like a lil jail time!!

When brothas are down and out on their luck, and sitting in a barred two-by-four with someone telling them when to eat, piss and go to sleep, the blood definitely gets flowing to the big head. The sky undoubtedly becomes the limit! Check out the latest project soon to come from the infamous BeanS...a publishing company?!?! And here I thought, his ass was just wasting away in a jail cell, plotting his next "beef" in a poor attempt to bolster his almost defunct rap career. I'm a lil surprised...at least for now!

But on the real...am I the only one sick of the mass marketing of shit glorifying the hood and street life? Seriously, it's in the music, on tv and now overwhelming the literary scene. I know we got it bad and all, and I'm certainly glad black folks are reading and writing, but dayum!!! At what point will all of these bling bling, hood chicks, playa-hating stories get old? Do black folks not have any other stories to tell...no imagination?

Beanie Siegel Launching Publishing Company
By Nemisis

When Beanie Siegel was serving time in jail, the readings the rapper read inspired him to start a book publishing company.

The rapper said that works of urban/street novelists like Teri Woods Publications, Vickie Stringer of Triple Crown Publications and veteran scribes like Iceberg Slim and Donald Goines.

Beanie Siegel told AllHipHop.com, "Being in jail, I had the time to sit down and read a lot of books. I was reading a lot of dudes that wrote books while in jail, guys that have scripts and things."

Siegel admitted, while his idea isn't wholly original, it would provide occasion for convicts to have a chance and break the cycle of prison bids many fall to.

"It's the whole Vickie Stringer thing of how she was locked up and started a publishing company. That's what I would be getting my book [ideas] from, people that are incarcerated," he explained. "So, this is an opportunity to give them a chance, because I was there with them. That's what I'm going to be doing."

Beanie Siegel's real life has read like a novel from Stringer, Goines or Woods.

In September, Siegel was acquitted of attempted-murder charges in a Philadelphia, Pennsylvania court and was released from jail in August after serving nine months on gun possession.

Last month, Sam Derry, Siegel's stepfather was murdered and his body was found badly burned and dumped in a Philadelphia alley.

The rapper has had a number of other legal issues including a 2003 assault case from 53-year-old man who alleges that Siegel fractured his eye socket.

If he writes as badly as he raps this could get really ignant. Last thing we need is more self expression from the mind of beenie.

i guess you can call me elitist or whatever and i should be happy that some folks are at least writing but the whole ghetto genre (unless well written) and the whole chick-lit thing just annoys me. when are black folk going to write actually literature.

sorry just my stuck up elitist side coming out but i'm sick of the bright colored paper back fiction we put out, i apologize.
