My Idols

Those that know me know, that I adore reality television. I don't know where this came from, what it is about these shows (certainly not the "reality") or the the why, but, I do know that I consume a lot of reality television. To my credit, I don't watch any and everything reality. I like to believe that even though these shows appeal to the small escapist portion of my brain that needs mindless banter of unknowns to decompress, I'm still selective in my viewing.

So it's official....

'Girlfriends' star Tracee Ellis Ross addressed Jill Marie Jones' departure from the Kelsey Grammar-produced sitcom in the Fall 2006 issue of Vibe Vixen. In her first major cover feature since her April 2002 Upscale magazine cover, Ross sets the record straight on Jones' decision to leave the show.

"In order for the show to come back, the cast was not going to get the huge raise we dreamed of. So when the calls went out about the new contracts, Jill gave a quick 'no.' It was her decision. Clearly, we all wanted to come back to 'Girlfriends' as we know it. However, like anything, the show is bigger than one person. The show is called 'Girlfriends,' not 'Jill and Friends,'" Ross said, before adding, "I think I was mostly sad that after six years, the call didn't come to me that said, 'Hey, I've decided to leave and this is what it's about.' But the show will go on."

Seriously though...how many people think the show will last without Toni Childs? I mean, isn't she the reason you kind of stay tuned in to the show? It certainly isn't for Maya, Lynn or Joan Carol Clayton?

So, if you don't own at least one Fleetwood Mac album, shame on you. Run out and at least buy this recommended 2-disc greatest hits collection immediately. I promise you won't be disappointed.

For all the avid reader's or summer m's of the world, this Oprah book club Summer of Faulkner set is well worth every penny. Yes, the summer season is coming to a close, but you can curl up with these classics well into the fall. I know I'll still be reading them as I struggle through The Sound and the Fury. A Travesty of Epic Proportions......

In my attempts to stay current with the goings on of the world, I discovered the following news story. I was deeply saddened and thought I should share this unfortnate situation with y'all.

"Chappelle's Show" Shut Down

Chappelle's Show is a no-go, bitch!

In a surprise announcement Wednesday, Comedy Central said that the highly anticipated third season of Dave Chappelle's show will not make its May 31 premiere date.

"Comedy Central has suspended production on the third season of Chappelle's Show until further notice," network spokesman Tony Fox said in a brief statement. "All parties are optimistic that production will resume in the near future."

No official reason was given for the shutdown, but sources told E! News that Chappelle has been MIA from the set for weeks. There was no indication on how long the suspension would last.

In December, the network said that Chappelle's Show was behind schedule after Chappelle fell ill, forcing the network to postpone the expected February debut of new episodes.

"Dave--and his entire production crew for that matter--got a bit of a late start on writing season three," Fox told the New York Post. Production was slated to resume in January.

Last August, Chappelle, 31, reupped with Comedy Central in a massive two-year deal, valued at $50 million by the Hollywood Reporter. The deal also set a new Industry precedent--reportedly giving the funnyman a large cut of backend DVD sales.

Featuring Chappelle's often raunchy standup, offbeat sketches and killer parodies of Prince and Rick James, Chappelle's Show has steadily built a huge following since its debut in January of 2003. By the end of season two, the half-hour show was often pulling in more than three million viewers, a substantial number for basic cable. The first season currently ranks as the all-time top-selling TV show on DVD. (Paramount has indefinitely pushed back the release of the second season--the studio hopes to time the DVD to the start of season three.)

In addition to his gig at Comedy Central, Chappelle had been working on a book for Hyperion. There has been no word on the book's status; there's also no word on the reported Rick James biopic for Paramount in which Chappelle would portray the late R&B wild man.

I can't believe this is happening. I was so looking forward to another season of Chappelle. The reruns of seasons one an two are really the only thing that has kept me laughing through my trials and tribulations!
